In Canada, congestion, safety problems, tight budgets and environmental concerns are leading to a rethink about how people and vehicles move, says the Intelligent Transportation Systems Society of Canada. In Edmonton, for example, sensors are being installed on busy roads to provide live traffic data for drivers whose vehicles contain special wireless devices, so the drivers can avoid bottlenecks.
