How Van Gogh inspired a ‘magical’ new technology
snip: Cars keep getting ‘smarter,’ to the point that soon they may drive themselves. But what about roads? Those are getting smarter, too, as new technologies create road surfaces that can offer drivers real-time warnings, or even conserve daylight to use at night.
In Canada, congestion, safety problems, tight budgets and environmental concerns are leading to a rethink about how people and vehicles move, says the Intelligent Transportation Systems Society of Canada. In Edmonton, for example, sensors are being installed on busy roads to provide live traffic data for drivers whose vehicles contain special wireless devices, so the drivers can avoid bottlenecks.
