One of the most important annual events on the Hebrew Calendar is the Passover meal and the seven-day Feast of Unleavened Bread. This powerful biblical holiday commemorates the deliverance of Israel from their slavery in ancient Egypt. God sent plagues upon the land of Egypt because Pharaoh refused to let the Israelites go free. The tenth and final plague was the death of the firstborn of every home in Egypt, yet God provided safety for His people. The cost was the life of a lamb. God passed over the homes of those who had the blood of the lamb on their doorposts (Exodus 12:13).

For followers of Messiah Yeshua (Jesus), Passover not only commemorates the miraculous events described in the book of Exodus, but also our spiritual deliverance from the slavery of sin. The shed blood of the lamb represents the blood of the Messiah. Those who have His blood on the doorposts of their hearts are spared from the second death. "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29)!

God commanded His people to keep Passover and Unleavened Bread throughout their generations "as a statute forever" (Exodus 12:14). Why? Because God so loves the world that He gave His only son (John 3:16). He wants the world to hear the message of the Gospel so that they, too, can be passed over and delivered from their sins.
